The main focus of today was food. Not eating it, shopping for it and cooking it. When I was working full time weekends were often spent cooking up meals for the week and feeding the freezer. Being home every day I’ve mostly just thrown something together every night. There hasn’t been much in the way of planning or thought just an open the fridge and cupboards, scratch my head and make something with what I find.
A while ago I said I was trying to create some kind of routine. So far that isn’t going so well. Originally I thought I’d start the day going through my emails (all those, thanks but no thanks ones) then do some job applications before a little light housework followed by a walk. On paper it sounds good. In practice it doesn’t work because the job applications take up so much time I don’t have chance to fit in a walk before Commando gets up and I have to start cooking. This week I thought I do the walking first which works a bit better but then the housework and job hunting end up spilling over into the evening. The routine needs some work I think.
Today I thought I’d plan some proper meals and go up the Big Hill first thing to get the vital ingredients. First thing didn’t turn out to be as early as I’d have liked because I got up late and then I spent ages planning meals. The shopping didn’t take as long as expected though because the village was quiet plus it was a walk, even if it was a short one.
Anyhow, I spent the afternoon in the kitchen. Now there’s a big pot of beef and Guinness stew, a blue cheese and bacon crustless quiche and a rack of cranberry and blueberry muffins cooling. The house smells wonderful and that is my one thing to make me smile for the day.
Now I’d better get on with the job applications.
